Remote control computers using LogMeIn Free June 23, 2008
Posted by Jeffrey Vergara in : Downloads, Tutorials, Windows , trackbackLogMeIn is a remote desktop application that works on both Macs and PCs, letting you control and access files and data from one computer on another. It has several versions, including a free one that lets you control your computer remotely using a different mouse and keyboard. Advanced versions add in remote printing, drag-and-drop file transfer, and support for several people controlling the same PC simultaneously.
If you are responsible for the maintenance of several machines, however, you don’t feel like actually visiting them in person. If this is you and you want to remote control your computers for free then use LogMeIn Free to obtain your remote control fix
Things You’ll Need: Logmein Account (free)
- Go to https://secure.logmein.com/createaccount.asp and create a LogMeIn account.
- Go to https://secure.logmein.com/products/free/ and download Logmein Free onto your first computer.
- Click Download Now.
- The software will begin to download click Run \ Open \ or Grant when prompted. (Depends on your browser and OS.)
- Click all of the following Next \ Ok \ I Agree \ and Custom Install when prompted.
- When installed click Finish.
- Go to Logmein.com from a different computer and login using your logmein account information from step 1, if you are already logged in click on My Computers from the top menu.

- You should see a list of computers you have downloaded the LogMeIn free software on. You can then click on the name of any computer that is currently on.
- Click on any machine that is enabled to take control.
- Login using the login credentials of the machine when prompted. For example if normally you would type in a user name and password to get into a machine you would type that information here again. You should also know that some computers that do not have passwords set - will have you use a special password that protects the computer over the internet. If you previously had to setup a ‘fake’ password then use that now to activate the computer. Keep in mind a fake password doesn’t mean it’s not a real password, just that you wouldn’t use that one if you were physically at the machine.
- You should now be logged into the desktop of the remote machine, you can change many of the quality settings using the top tool bar, you can also disconnect and change preferences on the left menu. Some of the settings along the top include: switch to full screen, increase color depth, lock remote keyboard, mouse and blank remote screens.
